DESCRIPTION
I am standing completely dressed in black, holding a white flag with red text that reads «My body is not state property«. I expose my abdomen with the phrase «State Control» written in wet blood dripping on my skin. I stay there for a long time. I then smear the blood with my hands over my abdomen. My blood-covered hands reach for the flag laying on the ground before me. I use the flag to remove the blood off my body. I deposit the flag loaded with blood in the same place where I was standing, leaving the message: «My body is not state property» to remain with the people present.
CONCEPT
State Control is a performance created to expose the biopolitical regimes of regulation of our bodies in which we find ourselves immersed, making visible how our survival is in the hands of the decisions of the states.
In recent years, the right to abortion in the U.S. has been weakened by an increasingly restrictive panorama with hostile laws in several states, making access to this right difficult or almost impossible in many cases.
This performance exhibits the governmental control suffered by those of us who are more fragile and claims with an upright body and a message written in blood, under the silent cry -For the state to remain out our bodies!-
Control Estatal
DESCRIPCIÓN
Estoy de pie completamente vestida de negro, sosteniendo una bandera blanca con un texto rojo que dice «Mi cuerpo no es propiedad del estado”. Expongo mi abdomen con la frase: «Control Estatal» escrita en sangre húmeda goteando sobre mi piel. Permanezco alli durante un largo rato. Luego unto la sangre con mis manos sobre mi abdomen. Mis manos cubiertas de sangre alcanzan la bandera que está en el suelo frente a mí. Uso la bandera para quitar la sangre de mi cuerpo. Deposito la bandera cargada de sangre en el mismo lugar donde estaba parada, dejando el mensaje: «Mi cuerpo no es propiedad del estado” para que conviva con la gente presente.
CONCEPTO
State Control es una performance que propone evidenciar los regímenes bio-políticos de regulación de nuestros cuerpos en los que nos encontramos inmersos, visibilizando cómo nuestra supervivencia está en manos de las decisiones de los estados.
En los últimos años, el derecho al aborto en EE. UU. se ha visto debilitado por un panorama cada vez más restrictivo con leyes hostiles en varios estados, lo que dificulta o casi imposibilita el acceso a este derecho en muchos casos. Esta performance exhibe el control gubernamental que sufrimos quienes somos más frágiles. Reclamo con el cuerpo erguido y un mensaje escrito en sangre, bajo el grito mudo -¡Por un Estado fuera de nuestros cuerpos!-
