DESCRIPTION
I covered my face with Micropore tape, emulating a face mask, to protect myself from the virus. I ripped the pieces one by one until I discovered my mouth. Inside was my green handkerchief, a symbol of the feminist struggle in Argentina. I slowly removed it from my mouth and tied it as a protective face mask.
CONCEPT
The urgent circumstance we are experiencing forces us to enter a collective state of silence. The face mask has a double function: it protects us against the virus and it silences us at the same time. Isolation works in the same way, making confinement the only possible defense against the ‘enemy’.
The vulnerable state of women hasn’t changed with isolation. For those who are in a violent situation, this means they are in constant contact with their true enemy, having no possible escape. The circumstance that is supposed to protect them and turns against. No mask is enough. The feminist struggle is the only way out.
DESCRIPCIÓN
Cubrí mi rostro con cinta Micropore, emulando un barbijo, para protegerme del virus. Fui removiendola poco a poco hasta descubrir mi boca. Dentro de ella tenía guardado mi pañuelo verde, símbolo de la lucha feminista en Argentina. Lo quité lentamente de mi boca y lo até nuevamente convirtiéndolo en una máscara protectora.
CONCEPTUAL
La circunstancia urgente en la que nos vemos inmersxs nos obliga a entrar en un estado colectivo de silencio. La máscara posee entonces una doble función: la de protegernos contra el virus y la de silenciarnos. De igual forma funciona el aislamiento, que plantea al encierro como única defensa posible ante el ‘enemigo’.
La situación de vulnerabilidad de las mujeres en Argentina no se ha modificado con el aislamiento. Para aquellas en situación de violencia esto significa estar en contacto constante con el verdadero enemigo y no poseer escapatoria posible. El contexto que se supone debe protegerlas se vuelve en su contra y no hay máscara que valga. La lucha feminista es la única salida.
