I insert surgical needles into the rib area. These hold a black flag that falls on my abdomen. The flag refers to the one used in Argentina as a symbol of the struggle for the decriminalization of abortion. It carries a message in white letters «Abortion is a life need». I kneel down. I leave the flag on the ground while the public approaches to look at it.
To be alive, we need a system that supports our survival. How many more lives are we waiting to lose in the global struggle over this issue of life? This action carries a message embedded in the skin of the abdomen, emulating the flags and insignias used in LGBTQ+ marches in Latin America. This area of the body falls under the jurisdictional regulation of power entities. The message «Abortion is a necessity of life» penetrates the boundaries of flesh and skin. The action demonstrates the institutional abuse of power that takes over our bodies and affects the lives of the less privileged around the world. This act of resistance aims to show the profound need for global laws that protect our survival and the freedom to choose over our own territory.
Una necesidad vital
Inserto agujas quirúrgicas en la zona de las costillas. Éstas sujetan una bandera negra que cae sobre mi abdomen. La bandera hace referencia a la que se utiliza en Argentina como símbolo de la lucha por la despenalización del aborto. Lleva un mensaje en letras blancas «El aborto es una necesidad vital». Me arrodillo. Dejo la bandera en el suelo mientras el público se acerca a mirarla.
Para estar vivos necesitamos un sistema que apoye nuestra supervivencia. ¿Cuántas vidas más estamos esperando perder en la lucha global sobre este tema de la vida? Esta acción lleva un mensaje insertado en la piel del abdomen, emulando las banderas e insignias utilizadas en las marchas LGTBQ+ en América Latina. Esta zona del cuerpo está bajo la regulación jurisdiccional de las entidades de poder. El mensaje «El aborto es una necesidad de vida» penetra los límites de la carne y la piel. La acción demuestra el abuso institucional de poder que se apodera de nuestros cuerpos y penetra en la vida de las personas con menos recursos en todo el mundo. Esta acción de resistencia pretende mostrar la profunda necesidad de leyes globales que protejan nuestra supervivencia y la libertad de elegir sobre nuestro propio territorio.
