I lock myself inside the bathroom of an abandoned house and ignite four flares. As the room fills with thick, black smoke, I struggle to breathe through the cracks. I remain until the smoke gradually fades, an experience that echoes the suffocation and violence faced by women every day.
In Argentina, a femicide occurs every 36 hours. Through this performance, I aim to evoke the sensation of suffocation that many women experience in moments of violence, whether through asphyxiation or being set on fire. The act of filling the space with smoke becomes a metaphor for the invisible forces that limit women’s freedom and existence.
Me encierro en el baño de una casa abandonada y prendo cuatro bengalas. A medida que la habitación se llena de un espeso humo negro, lucho por respirar a través de las rendijas. Permanezco allí hasta que el humo se desvanece gradualmente, una experiencia que resuena con la asfixia y violencia que enfrentan las mujeres a diario.
En Argentina, se comete un femicidio cada 36 horas. A través de esta performance, busco evocar la sensación de falta de aire que muchas mujeres experimentan en momentos de violencia, ya sea por asfixia o al ser prendidas fuego. El acto de llenar el espacio con humo se convierte en una metáfora de las fuerzas invisibles que limitan la libertad y la existencia de las mujeres.
