In Procedure 03, I seek to repair and reclaim my body, erasing the visible marks of the physical abuse I suffered in my childhood. As a result of this abuse, I developed a mandibular deviation, which caused an asymmetry in my face. This physical alteration inscribed in me a dysphoria that translates into a fractured and incomplete body. The surgical interventions are not simply an attempt at restoration, but a struggle to reconstruct my mental image. This is an uncertain narrative, unfolding infinitely, a process that never reaches a definitive resolution.
The surgical video presents one image in focus and another out of focus, highlighting the act of surgery as a process in itself, not its final resolution. It emphasizes how changes in matter, skin, and flesh are unpredictable. The intervention aims not only to correct but to transform and resist, recognizing the body as a space for reclamation. The surgical process becomes a performative act of reconstruction, an attempt to recover what has been lost while confronting the trauma that remains. This work reflects the tension between the desire to erase the marks of abuse and the inability to escape its imprint, facing a body that was never fully mine, but that I now seek to reclaim, rebuild, and claim.
En Procedimiento 03, busco reparar y reapropiarme de mi cuerpo, borrando las marcas visibles de los abusos físicos sufridos en mi infancia. A raíz de estos abusos, desarrollé una desviación mandibular, lo que provocó una asimetría en mi rostro. Esta alteración física inscribió en mí una disforia que se traduce en un cuerpo fracturado e incompleto. Las intervenciones quirúrgicas no son simplemente un intento de restauración, sino una lucha por reconstruir mi imagen mental. Este es un relato incierto, que se despliega de manera infinita, un proceso que nunca alcanza una resolución definitiva.
El video quirúrgico presenta una imagen en foco y otra fuera de foco, evidenciando el acto de la cirugía como un proceso en sí mismo y no su resolución final. Esto resalta cómo los cambios en la materia, la piel y la carne son impredecibles. La intervención no solo busca corregir, sino transformar y resistir, reconociendo el cuerpo como un espacio de reclamación. El proceso quirúrgico se convierte en un acto performático de reconstrucción, un intento de recuperar lo perdido mientras se enfrenta al trauma que sigue presente. Este trabajo refleja la tensión entre el deseo de borrar las marcas del abuso y la incapacidad de escapar de su huella, enfrentando un cuerpo que nunca fue completamente mío, pero que ahora intento recuperar, reconstruir y reclamar.
