For two hours, I remained naked and motionless inside a precarious shelter built from garbage bags and discarded street objects. Both my body and the structure were coated in a transparent, colorless gel —a fragile membrane intended to connect me with the environment, evoking the living, the mutable, and the ephemeral.
The so-called «shelter» offered no real protection; it barely separated my body from the outside world, exposing the false promises of refuge in violent, unstable contexts. In South America, where systemic neglect often begins at birth, the notion of safety is precarious, compromised, and illusory.
Bridge draws from the earliest experiences of existence—the body’s first enclosure inside the womb—and contrasts it with the failed constructions we inherit in social life. The work explores the fragility of survival, using the liquid medium and the unstable architecture as metaphors for the condition of living without true shelter: exposed, vulnerable, suspended between life and slow decomposition.
Durante dos horas, permanecí desnuda e inmóvil dentro de un refugio precario construido con bolsas de basura y objetos encontrados en la calle. Tanto mi cuerpo como la estructura estaban cubiertos con un gel transparente e incoloro: una membrana frágil destinada a conectar mi cuerpo con el entorno, evocando lo vivo, lo mutable y lo efímero.
El supuesto “refugio” no ofrecía verdadera protección; apenas separaba mi cuerpo del mundo exterior, exponiendo así las falsas promesas de resguardo en contextos violentos e inestables. En Sudamérica, donde el abandono sistémico suele comenzar desde el nacimiento, la noción de seguridad es precaria, frágil e ilusoria.
Puente parte de las primeras experiencias de existencia —el primer encierro del cuerpo en el útero— y las contrasta con las construcciones fallidas que heredamos en la vida social. La obra explora la fragilidad de la supervivencia, utilizando el medio líquido y la arquitectura inestable como metáforas de la condición de vivir sin un verdadero refugio: expuesta, vulnerable, suspendida entre la vida y una lenta descomposición.
