INTERACTIVE PIECE/VIRTUAL REALITY

DESCRIPTION
I created an Instagram filter that recreates the bandages used to cover stitches after plastic surgery. This is an interactive and collective piece that exists only in the context of a social network.
CONCEPT
WHAT DOESN’T TRANSITION DOESN’T EXIST
Systematically it’s been imposed on us that our existence and our actions must lead to something concrete, to standardized achievements: a house, a family, a name and surname. Also a nationality, a gender.
The prefix trans means to the other side, through.
Transitional identity gives the opportunity to see us in a transitional state -in this case, of post-surgical recovery- towards nowhere, without following any objective. It offers the possibility of experiencing and inhabiting that process of change. The transition state itself is a way of existing.
In the case of migrant identities, in many occasions they try to be who they are but at the same time try to be someone else, without becoming a different being completely. Affirming identity is not just saying who you are, many times it means going against the established, against stereotypes and discriminatory attitudes. Identities aren’t unchangeable, they exist in a state of transition.

Creé un filtro de Instagram que recrea los vendajes utilizados para cubrir los puntos que resultan de una cirugía plástica. Es una pieza interactiva y colectiva que existe sólo en el contexto de una red social.
CONCEPTUAL
LO QUE NO TRANSICIONA NO EXISTE
Sistemáticamente nos han impuesto que nuestra existencia y nuestro hacer deben desembocar en algo concreto, en logros estandarizados: esa casa, esa familia, ese nombre y apellido. También esa nacionalidad, ese género.

Identidad transicional propone vernos en un estado procesual de transición -en este caso de recuperación post-quirúrgica- hacia ningún lado, sin ningún objetivo. Ofrece la posibilidad de vivenciar y habitar ese proceso de cambio. El estado de transición en sí mismo es una forma de existir.
En el caso de las identidades migrantes, muchas veces intentan ser lo que son tratando de ser otrxs pero sin llegar a serlxs completamente. Afirmar la identidad no es sólo decir lo que uno es, muchas veces eso supone ir en contra de lo establecido, contra el estereotipo y las actitudes discriminantes. Las identidades no permanecen inmutables sino que existen en un estado de transición.
