I present myself wearing professional attire and walk in the space while a video plays in the background. While the video in the background provides derogatory information on immigrants, I have inserted surgical needles into my chest area. These needles hold a white flag that falls on my chest. The flag is similar to flags used in Argentina in public protests as a symbol of social struggle. The flag (about the size of my chest) holds a message in black letters that reads “ILLEGAL ALIEN” while the video in the background provides tools to deport those labeled with the term “illegal alien”. The video fragment ends with a Donald Trump speech laying out new policies to get America back to being “great again” by establishing more rigid policies on immigrants without proper documentation. Donal Trump goes on to label these immigrants as “illegal aliens”. I remain standing, holding with my skin a message that is attached to me and so many others in America. I march in place, the screen on the background portrays messages about being human and not ilegal. After some time, I remove the needles from my skin, and drop the flag/message on the ground for the audience to pick up as I walk away.
Me presento vistiendo ropa profesional de color negro y camino por el espacio mientras un video se reproduce en el fondo. Mientras el video proporciona información despectiva sobre los inmigrantes, he insertado agujas quirúrgicas en la zona del pecho. Estas agujas sostienen una bandera blanca que cae sobre mi pecho. La bandera es similar a las utilizadas en protestas públicas en Argentina como símbolo de lucha social. La bandera (del tamaño aproximado de mi pecho) lleva un mensaje en letras negras que dice “ALIEN ILEGAL” mientras el video en el fondo ofrece herramientas para deportar a aquellos etiquetados con el término de “alien ilegal”. El fragmento de video termina con un discurso de Donald Trump donde promete establecer nuevas políticas para hacer que América vuelva a ser “grande de nuevo” mediante la instauración de políticas más rígidas para los inmigrantes sin la documentación adecuada. Donald Trump continúa etiquetando a estos inmigrantes como “aliens ilegales”. Permanezco de pie, sosteniendo con mi piel un mensaje que está unido a mí y a tantos otros en América. Marcho en el lugar, la pantalla en el fondo muestra mensajes sobre ser humano y no ilegal. Después de un tiempo, retiro las agujas de mi piel y dejo caer la bandera/mensaje al suelo para que el público lo recoja mientras me alejo.
