Identities in Transition

A selected group of young adults is invited to transform their identities using temporary elements —makeup, clothing, objects— and to form a critical mass that walks through downtown Bogotá until reaching Plazoleta del Rosario, where the group unfolds in the space, making small movements, shifting positions, and inviting passersby to join a collective of identities in transit.
The performance proposes identity as a mutable avatar, in constant negotiation with its context. It explores the creation of new identities as a strategy of displacement and survival. In dialogue with Judith Butler’s notion of gender performativity and Donna Haraway’s ideas of the cyborg and hybridization, these avatars blur the boundaries between the human, the social, and the technological. Dismantling the idea of identity as property and embracing it as something created and designed opens the possibility of a happiness rooted in being, and in creative ways of inhabiting the city. The piece invites us to live transition as a collective form of existence.
Un grupo seleccionado de jóvenes adultos es convocado a transformar sus identidades con elementos temporales —maquillaje, ropa, objetos— y a constituir una masa crítica que atraviesa el centro de Bogotá hasta llegar a la Plazoleta del Rosario, donde el grupo se despliega en el espacio realizando pequeños movimientos, intercambiando posiciones e invitando al público transeúnte a sumarse a una colectividad de identidades en tránsito.
La performance propone la identidad como un avatar mutable, en permanente negociación con el contexto. Explora la creación de nuevas identidades como estrategia de desplazamiento y supervivencia. En diálogo con la performatividad de género de Judith Butler y la noción de cyborg e hibridación de Donna Haraway, los avatares desdibujan las fronteras entre lo humano, lo social y lo tecnológico. Desarmar la idea de propiedad sobre la identidad y abrazarla como algo creado y diseñado abre la posibilidad de una felicidad situada en el ser y en modos creativos de habitar la ciudad. La pieza invita a vivir la transición como forma de ser colectivo.
