ABOUT

BIO

The work of New York–based Argentinian artist Natacha Voliakovsky (Buenos Aires, 1988; they/she) is an embodied exploration of what it means to survive through the body. Treating the body as a site where violence, control, desire, and repair leave their mark, their practice moves between public actions, intimate durational performances involving surgical procedures, and installations in drawing, video, and sculpture. Engaging Sudaca feminism, decolonial aesthetics, and questions of radical autonomy, Voliakovsky approaches the body as a posthuman interface—one that can be redesigned under pressure, scarred and reconfigured, yet still capable of transformation. Their long-term investigation into physical processes imagines the corporeal as a contested field shaped by trauma and the state, while searching for forms of liberation, ritual, and somatic repair.

Voliakovsky’s work has been presented at the Bogotá Biennial (Colombia), the Latin American Art Triennial (New York), Every Woman Biennial (London), Deformes – International Performance Triennial (Chile), The Immigrant Artist Biennial (New York), and the International Forum of Performance Art of Greece, among others. Their work has been shown at institutions such as The Momentary Museum (Arkansas), the Center for Performance Research and Grace Exhibition Space (New York), the Museum of Contemporary Art of Bogotá, Lothringer 13 Halle (Munich), and MACBA – Museum of Contemporary Art of Buenos Aires.

Selected for the 112th Salón Nacional de Artes Visuales (Buenos Aires), Voliakovsky has received the SU-CASA / LMCC art grant four years in a row since 2023, as well as the UNNE Award, support from the National Fund for the Arts (Argentina), and Second Prize in the Proyecto A award. They have participated in residencies including Sur Polar Antarctic Residency (Argentina), Take a Breath at The Action Lab (New York), Ruina Residency (Oaxaca), and Überbau Haus (São Paulo).

Beyond their individual practice, Voliakovsky is the founder and director of Argentina Performance Art (since 2018), a platform dedicated to the theory, research, and archive of performance art in Argentina and its diaspora. They have given lectures at Harvard University, Purchase College (SUNY), HB Studio, the Consulate of Argentina in New York, and the National University of Colombia (Bogotá), among others. They hold a Bachelor’s degree in Design from the University of Buenos Aires (FADU-UBA), studied Visual Arts at the National University of the Arts (UNA), completed EMERGENYC at the Hemispheric Institute of Performance and Politics (NYU), and earned a Postgraduate degree in Artistic and Political Practices in Latin America from the University of Buenos Aires (FILO-UBA). They live and work between New York and Buenos Aires, and their work is part of several private collections.
