BIO

The work of New York-based Argentinian artist Natacha Voliakovsky (Buenos Aires, 1988; they/she) is an embodied navigation of the intricacies of survival as explored through the body. Theorized as a site where violence, abuse, control, and desire leave their mark on the individual, Voliakovsky’s practiceone that moves between public and collective actions, intimate durational performances that push the body to extreme limits through surgical interventions, and mediums ranging from drawing, video and sculpture— engages Sudaca feminism, decolonial aesthetics, and radical autonomy through a practice of endurance and scarification. Voliakovsky’s long-term investigation of physical processes looks to body horror and decayed beauty, envisioning the corporeal as a battle field scarred by trauma and the state. She challenges systems of power, gender norms, and colonialism by creating a vocabulary of liberation that invokes narratives of resistance, transformation, political agency, and ritual.

Voliakovsky has presented her work at the Bogotá Biennial (2025, Colombia), the Latin American Art Triennial (2022, 2023, New York), Every Woman Biennial (2021, London), Deformes – International Performance Triennial (2020, Chile), The Immigrant Artist Biennial (2019, New York), and the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 6th International Forum of Performance Art of Greece, among others. Their work has been featured at The Momentary Museum (Arkansas), the Center for Performance Research (New York), Grace Exhibition Space (New York), the Museum of Contemporary Art of Bogotá (Colombia), Lothringer 13 Halle (Munich), MACBA – Contemporary Art Museum of Buenos Aires, among others.

Selected for the 112° Salón Nacional de Artes Visuales Award (2025, Buenos Aires), Voliakovsky has received the SU-CASA / Lower Manhattan Cultural Council art grant four years in a row since 2023, as well as the UNNE Award (Corrientes University Cultural Center, Argentina, 2019), the support from the National Fund for the Arts (Buenos Aires, 2019), and Second Prize in the Proyecto–A award (Buenos Aires, 2014). They have participated in residencies such as Sur Polar Antarctic Residency (Argentina), Take a Breath at The Action Lab (New York), Ruina Residency (Oaxaca, Mexico), Überbau Haus (São Paulo, Brazil), among others. Voliakovsky has given lectures at Harvard University (Boston), Purchase College (SUNY, New York), HB Studio (New York), the Consulate of Argentina in New York, the National University of Bogotá (Colombia), Recoleta Cultural Center (Buenos Aires), among others.

Beyond their individual practice, Voliakovsky founded Argentina Performance Art in 2018, a platform dedicated to the theory, research and archive of performance art in Argentina and the diaspora. As Director of APA, Voliakovsky has developed programs including editorial and curatorial projects that strengthen networks across South America. Voliakovsky holds a Bachelor’s degree in Design from the Faculty of Design, Architecture and Urbanism of Buenos Aires (2015) and simultaneously studied Visual Arts at the National University of the Arts (2010–2011). In 2019, she completed EmergeNYC at the Hemispheric Institute of Performance and Politics at New York University (NYU). In 2025, she finished a Postgraduate degree in Artistic and Political Practices in Latin America at the Faculty of Philosophy – University of Buenos Aires.

Living and working between Buenos Aires and New York City, she continues to explore the body and the identities thrust upon it through her interdisciplinary practice, reshaping narratives of trauma in an effort to reclaim, repair, and seek justice.
